Antibiotics
Antibiotics and irrigation with antimicrobials may be recommended to help resolve infection and control the growth of harmful bacteria. We use antibiotics and antimicrobials these ways:
- Prescriptions for acute and chronic infections
- Preventative medication for patients at risk due to medical conditions
- At the time of treatment as direct application into a site of need
- At the time of treatment as a time-released locally applied antibiotic
Antibiotics act as a help in the treatment of periodontal and dental infections. They are not a cure for periodontal disease.
